Ok, it could be a singer/songwriter too. But in my case, I was lucky enough to see Franz Ferdinand and Pretty Girls Make Graves play a hot sweaty show at Liberty Hall in Lawrence, Kansas last Friday. Great show!

The last show I caught was Amos Lee back on October 28 at the High Noon in Madison. My sister came into town and she thinks he's *dreamy*. I actually enjoyed the show much more than I thought I would, since I had thought his album was a bit slow. I didn't know many of his songs prior to the show but most songs were catchy enough to hold my attention and sing along with the refrain. Color me pleasantly surprised.
To go along with this, I managed to do myself a great disservice and miss Alejandro Escovedo last Saturday night. Unforgivable, I know, but old friends were in from Chicago. If that wasn't enough, the Heartless Bastards were also playing in town. As a consolation prize, I did get to see the Badgers take out Colorado College 3-0 in hockey.

LOL... Friends don't let friends miss Alejandro... You probably don't want to hear this, but he's been SOOOO good on the current tour with Jon Dee Graham on the guitar. When I saw him over the summer, Graham threw down some solos that literally made my jaw drop. It was the first time I'd ever caught myself standing there, mouth open... stunned at what he was playing. So if they come back that way anytime soon, drag ALL your friends there!

As the father of a five year old son, I don't get out to see live music as much as I used to. However, one show I remember with particular fondness was Richard Thompson, solo acoustic at the Indy Jazz festival.
A then up and coming Nora Jones had just finished her short mid-day set when dark clouds started moving in. By the time Richard took the stage it was starting to rain, and by the second song in his set it was pouring. Even though He was getting pelted with huge raindrops, Richard played on furiously with his trademark passion and determination.
Was it the best set I've ever seen him do? No. But it was certainly one of the most memorable. Besides the rain, this was also the first time I had ever encountered Beatle Bob, and any of you who have seen him in action know that he is a show unto himself.
